About This Internship
Join the American Institutes for Research (AIR) as a part-time Researcher Intern supporting the National Center for Systemic Improvement (NCSI). This 8-month internship (October 2026–May 2027) is designed for graduate students passionate about special education leadership, state education agency work, systems-level improvement, and evidence-based practices that improve outcomes for children and youth with disabilities.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to ongoing NCSI projects supporting state education agencies (SEAs) in strengthening their general supervision and professional development systems
- Participate in structured professional learning and mentorship programs
- Complete a culminating project aligned to NCSI priorities and organizational goals
- Collaborate with project staff during standard business hours on weekdays
- Engage in meetings and professional development activities focused on systems-level education improvement
Who You Are
- Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in education, special education, or related field
- Available to work part-time during standard U.S. business hours on weekdays

Work Arrangement
This is a part-time, remote internship within the United States (excluding U.S. territories) or from one of AIR's U.S. office locations (Arlington, Virginia; Washington DC; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; Rockville, Maryland; Sacramento, California; Waltham, Massachusetts; Austin, Texas). Work must occur during standard weekday business hours to support team collaboration and professional learning.
