City Host – Base Community Events
💰 $80,000 – $130,000/yr
Job Description
About Base
Base is a platform dedicated to fostering in-real-life social connection and community among accomplished professionals. Our Members are individuals who have built successful careers, families, and strong reputations. They join Base to experience what their busy calendars often lack: regular, meaningful in-person time with peers they genuinely want to know. At Base, the gathering itself is the product, and the City Host is the essential person who brings that product to life.
The Role
As a City Host, you will run Base events in your city, creating and hosting diverse experiences including social gatherings, new-member orientations, dinners, seasonal celebrations, and specialized experiences. You are responsible for every aspect of event execution—from the moment you arrive to set up until the last attendee leaves. Your role is to transform venues into welcoming spaces where accomplished professionals feel genuinely connected. You will work the room with confidence, greet Members by name, manage energy and flow, and ensure every detail reflects Base's high standards.
What You Will Do
Own the room from open to close. You arrive early to set the physical space—managing lighting, music, place cards, and overall flow. The venue must look exceptional before the first Member arrives, creating an immediate sense that they're in the right place.
Welcome Members with intention. You know who is attending your events. You greet each person by name at the door, making them feel personally recognized and valued from their first moment.
Work the room with presence. You open events with energy, manage the group dynamic throughout, handle transitions smoothly, and close with purpose. Whether hosting 20 people at an intimate dinner or 60 at a larger social, you maintain the event's quality and momentum.
Run a full range of event formats. You adapt to different event types—experiences, socials, orientations, dinners, and seasonal events—while maintaining consistent Base standards across all formats.
Maintain obsessive attention to detail. You notice and correct small issues before attendees do: a crooked chair, inadequate lighting, awkward musical transitions, or any element that disrupts the experience.
Execute flawless teardown. You leave every venue in better condition than you found it, managing cleanup and logistics professionally.
Who You Are
Genuinely charismatic. People naturally warm to you quickly. You have authentic social presence that puts accomplished adults at ease.
A peer, not a service provider. You're comfortable and confident around high-achieving professionals. You belong in the room as a person, not just as staff working it.
A true lover of your city. You know the culture, neighborhoods, venues, and local character. You understand where people want to be and what experiences resonate in your community.
A confident group leader. You can command and guide groups ranging from 20 to 60 people without losing their attention or engagement.
Reliably consistent. Events operate on recurring schedules. You show up every time fully prepared and on standard, without exception.
Detail-obsessed. You catch nuances others miss—the atmosphere, small social dynamics, what makes an experience feel polished versus amateur.
Genuinely curious about people. You remember names, personal stories, who attended previous events, and who is new. You track the human elements that make community real.
Ideal Background
Ideal candidates have experience running real rooms for discerning audiences. Relevant backgrounds include hospitality, fine dining, theater, private clubs, event production, high-end weddings, or upscale restaurants. The common thread across all ideal candidates: you have successfully held the room, and people have returned because of your presence and execution.
Event Details & Compensation Structure
Per-event compensation: $25 to $300 per event, scaled according to event size and responsibility level. Additional tasks (setup, coordination, etc.) range from $10 to $30 depending on complexity.
Time commitment per event: 2-hour core event time, typically 3 to 4 hours including setup and teardown.
Schedule flexibility: Flexible scheduling with most events occurring on weekends and weeknights. Events operate on a recurring rhythm, allowing you to build routine and deeper relationships with your community.
This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who thrives in hospitality, community building, and event curation to create meaningful connections between accomplished professionals in your city.
💰 Compensation not publicly listed as traditional salary. Base compensation structure: $25–$300 per event depending on size and scope. Market estimate for comparable community hosting/event roles: $80K–$130K annually if calculated as full-time equivalent. Actual earnings depend on event frequency and your city's event schedule.
