Position Overview

Understood Care is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Billing and Collections Specialist for a 3-month contract position. This remote role focuses primarily on billing operations, claims follow-up, and collections to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and experienced in managing billing workflows and resolving outstanding balances efficiently. You'll play a critical role in supporting our healthcare operations and ensuring proper revenue cycle management.

Key Responsibilities

Billing & Claims Management

• Submit and track claims accurately and in a timely manner to insurance providers
• Monitor claim status and proactively follow up on unpaid or denied claims
• Identify billing discrepancies and support resolution efforts with payers
• Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with payer requirements and regulations
• Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions and claim submissions

Collections & Reimbursement

• Manage accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances systematically
• Communicate professionally with patients and insurance representatives regarding payment status
• Process payments and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy
• Generate collections reports and provide regular updates on recovery status

Administrative & Operational Support

• Utilize billing software and healthcare management systems to process claims and track reimbursements
• Maintain organized filing systems (digital and physical) for billing documentation
• Collaborate with the clinical and operations teams to resolve billing-related issues
• Support month-end reconciliation and reporting activities

What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in medical billing, collections, or healthcare revenue cycle management
• Strong understanding of insurance claims processes, Medicare billing, and healthcare compliance
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail
• Proficiency with billing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and MS Office Suite
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple priorities
• Professional approach to sensitive financial information and patient data

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Medicare billing and claims processing
• Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations (HIPAA, etc.)
• Familiarity with patient advocacy or healthcare services
• Medical coding background or billing certification
