The Role

As a Member of Technical Staff (MLE) on the North team, you'll be at the forefront of defining and shaping the future of AI-powered products. North is Cohere's all-in-one secure AI workspace platform, and in this role you'll translate cutting-edge research into high-performance, production-ready systems. You'll drive agent development across RAG, tool use, and language agents while working in an environment with one of the highest compute-to-engineer ratios in the world.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and scale AI systems that power Cohere's suite of developer-centric enterprise products
• Drive development of intelligent agents within North, focusing on RAG systems, tool use integration, and advanced language agents
• Rapidly prototype and experiment with novel ideas on world-class supercomputing and data infrastructure
• Collaborate with top-tier researchers, engineers, and data annotators to create and evaluate training data for post-training LLMs
• Stay current with the latest AI research by engaging with leading conferences including NeurIPS, ICLR, and AAAI
• Analyze product data to identify usage patterns and optimization opportunities, keeping our solutions competitive and relevant
• Work directly with leadership to shape company strategy, goals, and technical direction
• Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and rapid iteration

Location & Schedule

This is a remote position for candidates in EMEA-friendly timezones. The team operates primarily between ET (Eastern Time) and CET (Central European Time) to ensure effective collaboration. While Cohere has offices in London, Paris, Toronto, San Francisco, and New York, we embrace remote-friendly work arrangements for qualified candidates aligned with these core hours.

You're an engineer or researcher passionate about AI systems and capable of operating effectively at the intersection of research and production. You have strong fundamentals in machine learning, experience building scalable systems, and the ability to move fast while maintaining quality. You thrive in small, diverse teams and are excited about the prospect of shaping the future of enterprise AI.
