About This Role
Continental is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Government Affairs to lead our government relations initiatives on a global scale. This is a remote position that offers the opportunity to shape public policy engagement, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and drive Continental's strategic objectives across government and regulatory bodies worldwide.
As Head of Government Affairs, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive government relations strategies that advance Continental's business interests, protect our reputation, and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. This leadership role requires deep expertise in public affairs, policy advocacy, and stakeholder management at the highest levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic government affairs policies and initiatives aligned with Continental's corporate objectives and values
- Lead and manage a team of government affairs professionals, lobbyists, and policy specialists across regional and global markets
- Establish and nurture relationships with government officials, regulators, elected representatives, and key decision-makers at federal, state, and local levels
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that could impact Continental's operations, products, and business strategy
- Coordinate public policy advocacy efforts, including testimony preparation, position papers, and regulatory submissions
- Represent Continental at industry associations, trade groups, and policy forums
- Manage government affairs budgets and ensure effective allocation of resources across advocacy initiatives
- Provide executive leadership with policy intelligence, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations on government and regulatory matters
- Ensure all government affairs activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards
- Build strategic coalitions with industry partners and stakeholders to advance shared policy objectives
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, or related fields
- Proven track record of leading government relations teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships
- Deep understanding of legislative processes, regulatory frameworks, and policy development at multiple government levels
- Experience in the automotive, manufacturing, or industrial sectors highly valued
- Strong knowledge of international trade, tariffs, environmental regulations, and compliance frameworks
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including ability to communicate complex policy issues to executive leadership
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic advocacy campaigns
- Experience managing government affairs budgets and demonstrating ROI on advocacy initiatives
- Advanced degree (JD, MBA, MPA, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to compliance and transparency in all government interactions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with international government affairs and multilateral policy engagement
- Background in automotive industry regulations, safety standards, or emissions policy
- Prior experience with C-suite or board-level reporting and strategic planning
- Knowledge of sustainability and ESG policy frameworks
- Established network within government, regulatory agencies, and policy circles
