Position Overview
Understood Care is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Contracting, Credentialing & Billing Specialist to support provider operations. This role is critical in ensuring providers are properly contracted, credentialed, and reimbursed in a timely and accurate manner. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and comfortable managing multiple workflows simultaneously in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Contracting & Credentialing
- Manage end-to-end provider contracting and credentialing processes from initiation to completion
- Prepare, submit, and track credentialing applications with payers using various portals and systems
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date provider records and comprehensive documentation
- Monitor credentialing timelines and proactively follow up with payers to expedite approvals
- Support re-credentialing cycles and ensure ongoing compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with providers to gather required documentation and resolve credentialing obstacles
Billing Support
- Assist with billing setup and configuration for newly credentialed providers
- Support claim submission, tracking, and follow-up activities as needed
- Identify and help resolve basic billing issues, discrepancies, and payment problems
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate provider data across all systems
- Monitor billing timelines and flag issues that require escalation
Administrative & Compliance Support
- Maintain organized and compliant documentation in internal systems and databases
- Ensure full compliance with payer requirements, state regulations, and organizational policies
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal teams and external partners
- Generate reports and track metrics related to contracting and credentialing activities
- Assist with audits and compliance reviews as needed
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of professional experience in healthcare contracting, credentialing, licensing, or billing
- Demonstrated familiarity with payer portals and credentialing processes
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new systems quickly
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements and regulatory standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare administration systems and electronic credentialing platforms
- Familiarity with Medicare and health insurance processes
- Previous experience in a patient advocacy or healthcare operations role
- Certification or training in healthcare credentialing or billing
