Deputy Chief Data Officer – Remote Opportunity

Social Discovery Ventures is seeking an experienced and strategic Deputy Chief Data Officer to join our leadership team on a worldwide remote basis. This is a pivotal role for a data professional ready to drive organizational data strategy, governance, and digital transformation initiatives across a growing global organization.

About the Role

As Deputy CDO, you will partner closely with our Chief Data Officer and executive leadership to shape and execute the company's data vision. You will be responsible for overseeing data strategy, architecture, analytics capabilities, and ensuring data governance frameworks align with business objectives. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise, requiring a unique blend of business acumen and deep data proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Strategy & Governance: Develop and implement enterprise-wide data governance policies, data quality standards, and compliance frameworks ensuring regulatory adherence across all business units.
• Leadership & Team Development: Build, mentor, and lead high-performing data teams including data engineers, analysts, scientists, and architects. Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.
• Analytics & Insights: Oversee the development of advanced analytics capabilities, business intelligence platforms, and data products that drive competitive advantage and operational efficiency.
• Data Architecture: Collaborate with technology leadership on data infrastructure modernization, cloud migration strategies, and scalable data platforms supporting enterprise growth.
• Stakeholder Management: Partner with C-suite executives, department heads, and cross-functional teams to identify data opportunities, communicate insights, and align data initiatives with business strategy.
• Risk & Compliance: Ensure data security, privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), and ethical AI practices across all data operations.
• Performance Metrics: Establish KPIs and success metrics for data initiatives, track ROI on data investments, and continuously optimize data operations.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in data leadership, data science, analytics, or related technical roles
• Proven track record in CDO, VP Data, or equivalent senior data leadership positions
• Deep expertise in data architecture, data warehousing, and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing technical teams
• Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills
• Experience translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
• Strategic thinking combined with operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
• Experience in fast-growth tech companies or venture-backed startups
• Background in AI/ML strategy and implementation
• Familiarity with agile and modern software development practices
• International or multi-regional operational experience
