Job Description
About GiveDirectly
GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty across 15 countries since 2011. We believe cash transfers are one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid. Our work has been featured in The Economist, NPR, TED, and The Washington Post, and we are recognized as one of Time100's Most Influential Companies of 2026.
Role Overview
The #1 obstacle to GiveDirectly increasing our impact is that donors still don't know about or understand direct cash transfers. This Media Relations Associate role is fundamental to solving that problem by growing awareness of cash as an effective aid intervention and generating interest from catalytic donors.
This year, we're focused on ensuring direct cash and GiveDirectly gain fast, targeted visibility among high-value audiences. Two of our main tools are earned media coverage and collaborations with influencers, surrogates, and thought leaders.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute media relations strategies to increase awareness of GiveDirectly and cash transfer effectiveness
- Build relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets covering international development, poverty alleviation, and effective altruism
- Pitch stories and secure earned media coverage in high-impact publications
- Identify and engage thought leaders, influencers, and surrogates to amplify our message
- Monitor media coverage and track communications impact
- Support strategic collaborations with external partners and advocates
Culture & Values
