Job Description

About The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation

The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF) is a pioneering philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence and data science solutions to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all. PJMF collaborates with public, private, and social institutions to drive meaningful progress on humanity's most pressing challenges, including digital health, climate change, broad digital access, and data maturity in the social sector.

What We're Building

PJMF is developing a comprehensive suite of AI-enabled tools that will serve as the intelligence layer for modern philanthropy. Every year, foundations and corporate funders deploy hundreds of billions of dollars toward critical social challenges—yet they do so using systems designed primarily for compliance rather than insight. Program officers currently spend disproportionate time reformatting documents and reconciling spreadsheets instead of learning from their portfolios or deepening relationships with grant partners.

Grant Guardian, PJMF's existing flagship product, already helps hundreds of foundations leverage AI to streamline their financial due diligence workflows. The next generation of our platform will place AI at the center of strategic philanthropy by automatically distilling grant applications into actionable insights, identifying patterns across thousands of grants, generating board materials in minutes, and lowering barriers for historically excluded organizations through innovative features like proposal feedback and real-time translation capabilities.

About This Role

We are seeking a self-driven, growth-minded Junior DevOps Engineer to contribute to the development, deployment, and maintenance of data and AI products that support positive social impact across the globe. In this position, you will:

  • Support the maintenance and optimization of cloud infrastructure that powers our AI and data products
  • Contribute to full-stack applications built on top of our cloud platform
  • Work directly with nonprofit partners, helping them understand and successfully adopt the tools we build
  • Participate in cloud-based application development that brings AI outputs into real-world use
  • Collaborate across a small, agile team working in short development cycles

What You'll Gain

This is an early-career, growth-oriented DevOps role specifically designed for engineers building foundational experience in cloud infrastructure, automation, and deployment systems. The position operates under the guidance of senior engineers, with progressive assumption of greater responsibility as your skills and confidence develop. You will:

  • Build hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Learn deployment automation and CI/CD pipeline development
  • Understand how technology serves social impact at scale
  • Work on systems that directly benefit nonprofit organizations and the communities they serve
  • Develop professionally in a collaborative, mission-driven environment

The Team & Culture

We are a small, focused team where individual contributions have immediate, visible impact. We work in short cycles and emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration. Everyone's work directly influences the effectiveness of our products and the outcomes for our nonprofit partners around the world.

This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about early-stage infrastructure challenges, eager to learn from experienced mentors, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute technology toward meaningful social change in global philanthropy.
