The Opportunity

We are seeking compassionate and proactive independent support professionals to join our growing network. In this part-time, remote role as a Patient Advocate, you will serve as a trusted point of contact for Medicare patients following their initial intake visit with a Clinical Lead.

As an independent support professional using the Understood Care platform, you will:

  • Provide member-centered guidance with patience, clarity, and respect to Medicare patients navigating complex healthcare systems
  • Help members understand and effectively use their insurance coverage
  • Assist with scheduling medical appointments and coordinating care logistics
  • Support members in completing healthcare forms and documentation
  • Locate and connect patients with resources related to social needs, including food, housing, and community services
  • Facilitate communication between members and their healthcare providers
  • Use the Understood Care platform to access member information and deliver individualized navigation support
  • Exercise independent judgment in determining how best to support each member's unique needs

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal independent support professional has experience providing member-facing, non-clinical support and is comfortable using technology to deliver services independently through a digital platform. You understand the complexities of healthcare navigation and are passionate about reducing barriers to care for vulnerable populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting members or caregivers in navigating healthcare, insurance, appointments, provider communications, or digital health tools
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, or other public insurance programs
  • Background in member advocacy, case management, care coordination, health coaching, benefits navigation, or similar healthcare navigation support
  • Strong commitment to member empowerment and reducing barriers to care access
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions in responding to member needs
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort working through ambiguous situations
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology platforms and learn new digital tools quickly
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to explain complex healthcare concepts in simple terms
  • Bilingual capability in Spanish, Mandarin, or another language (highly valued)
  • Reliable internet connection and quiet workspace for remote work

Role Structure & Independence

This is a part-time, independent contractor (1099) position. As an independent support professional, you are not an employee of Understood Care. You will exercise independent judgment in determining how to perform your services, consistent with applicable platform standards, member needs, and all legal and regulatory requirements. You will have flexibility in managing your schedule while maintaining commitment to member support quality and responsiveness.
