Job Description

About Recidiviz

Recidiviz is creating safer, healthier communities by improving outcomes for people in the criminal justice system. We build technology to reduce the number of people in prison and help criminal justice leaders embrace data-driven decision-making. Using software tools and thoughtful product design, we've safely and permanently reduced incarceration and improved outcomes across multiple state systems. We work side-by-side with criminal justice leaders, incarcerated individuals, those on supervision, and ecosystem partners to build a better path forward.

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our fast-moving team working with complex criminal justice data from state partners. This is a hybrid technical leadership and hands-on analytics role where you'll guide work targeting the drivers of incarceration across the country. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent as a technical lead coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver products for specific state partners. The remaining 50% is dedicated to hands-on data analysis and individual contributor work.

In your technical lead capacity, you'll work closely with State Engagement and Product Management to assess feasibility, manage delivery, and keep technical teams unblocked and aligned. You'll break down roadmaps into well-scoped tickets with clear owners and deadlines, coordinate handoffs across data, engineering, and product teams, and ensure continuous momentum on critical initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead technical delivery for a set of state partners by breaking down roadmaps into well-scoped tickets with owners and deadlines
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate handoffs across data, engineering, and product teams while keeping stakeholders unblocked and aligned
  • Feasibility Assessment: Assess technical feasibility of state initiatives early and often, partnering with State Engagement and Product Management to determine accurate technical timelines
  • Data Analysis: Perform sophisticated analyses on criminal justice data to develop understanding of system dynamics and motivate evidence-based change
  • Data Tooling: Contribute to data tooling and infrastructure that powers analytical capabilities across state systems
  • Product Foundation: Ensure each product in each state has the analytical foundation required to drive measurable impact
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build deep relationships with state partners, demonstrating empathy for both system leaders and the populations our mission serves

What We're Looking For

You bring attention to detail that provides rigor to complex analyses, creativity and inquisitiveness to identify and solve open-ended problems, and clarity of thinking when working through complex and variable data. You're flexible in a rapidly evolving environment and possess a collaborative, kind nature that strengthens our culture. You lead with humility, assume good intent, learn from failure, and fix problems when you see them. You're excited to work directly with government leadership and staff, are a great listener, and can build empathy for diverse stakeholders.

Travel Expectations

Travel is encouraged approximately once every 6 months to state partners within the continental USA, and occasionally required. These trips include visits to correctional facilities, parole offices, and partner organizations to deepen understanding of real-world impact and build relationships with system leaders.

💰 Compensation not publicly listed. Market estimate for similar roles: from $85K, varying by experience and location.
