Senior Backend Engineer (Go) - Remote in Poland
💰 $120,000 – $170,000/yr
Job Description
About the Role
Inflect is seeking a Senior or Staff Backend Engineer to join our Engineering team as a contractor, taking strong technical ownership of key backend services. This is a hands-on, execution-focused position designed for an experienced engineer who excels at building, scaling, and improving production systems that directly power our business. Operating at senior or early staff level, you will have significant autonomy and direct impact on our product direction.
This role is ideal for engineers seeking substantial technical ownership without people management responsibilities. You will work in a small, senior engineering team where each member has real influence on backend architecture, technical direction, and tooling choices while maintaining close alignment with product and business goals. Rather than managing legacy systems, you'll focus entirely on building and scaling modern backend services.
About Inflect
Inflect operates an innovative IT infrastructure marketplace, connecting buyers and service providers through a single, product-driven platform. We're not a software house or agency—we manage complex marketplace workflows at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, network services, and large-scale compute resources (CPU/GPU).
Our marketplace integrates directly with service providers and enables buyers to discover, compare, and transact infrastructure services in a frictionless way. Our engineering culture prioritizes pragmatism, ownership, and fast feedback cycles. We deliver real business value over rigid process frameworks or excessive ceremony.
Key Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of key backend services powering Inflect's marketplace and service provider integrations
- Design, implement, and scale backend systems that support seamless onboarding and integration of new service provider groups
- Collaborate actively with Product and Engineering leadership to translate marketplace requirements into pragmatic, production-ready technical solutions
- Design and implement distributed backend services with strong focus on reliability, throughput, latency optimization, resiliency, rapid delivery, and cost efficiency
- Rapidly validate ideas, build production-ready solutions, and iterate based on real usage patterns and user feedback
- Write robust, well-structured code with comprehensive test coverage to ensure reliability and maintainability
- Contribute to technical strategy, architecture decisions, and infrastructure improvements across the engineering team
How You'll Work
- Time Zone: Primary working hours in Polish (CET) timezone with regular collaboration and overlap with US-based engineers and stakeholders
- Work Model: Hybrid—1–2 days per week in Warsaw office preferred, with remote flexibility for the remainder
- Communication: Daily English-language communication with US-based engineering team and partners
- Collaboration: Close partnership with Product, Backend, and Infrastructure-focused team members
Who You Are
You are an experienced backend engineer comfortable operating independently at senior or early staff level. You have proven expertise building and scaling distributed systems, with deep knowledge of Go or similar systems programming languages. You excel in pragmatic problem-solving, balancing engineering excellence with business delivery timelines.
You bring strong architectural thinking to distributed systems design, with demonstrated ability to optimize for reliability, performance, and cost simultaneously. You communicate clearly in English and enjoy cross-timezone collaboration. You're motivated by technical ownership and direct impact on product decisions rather than management tracks.
Technical Focus Areas
You should have demonstrated expertise or strong interest in several of these areas: distributed systems architecture, backend service design and scaling, cloud infrastructure integration, API design patterns, database optimization, asynchronous processing, monitoring and observability, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Why Join Inflect
Work directly on a complex, high-impact marketplace connecting infrastructure providers and buyers. Enjoy genuine technical autonomy with influence over architecture and technology choices. Collaborate with a senior engineering team that values pragmatism and fast iteration over process overhead. Build modern backend systems from the ground up without managing legacy code. Gain exposure to cloud infrastructure, marketplace economics, and distributed systems at meaningful scale.
