Backend Engineer

About the Role

Develop microservices in a distributed deployment environment with emphasis on containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes. You'll work on core logic of complex systems accessed millions of times daily. The platform was built from scratch 3 years ago using the latest technology—no legacy code burden. With millions of users, stability and robustness are critical, supported by 24/7 team coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop highly-scalable mobile internet backends for millions of users
• Collaborate with Project Managers and development teams to define features and user stories for new or revised applications
• Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to vision, architecture patterns and resource libraries
• Respond to production support calls for rapid diagnosis and repair
• Participate in team ceremonies: planning, grooming, demonstrations and retrospectives
• Mentor less experienced team members

Languages & Frameworks: Java 17, Spring Boot (Tomcat, Netty), Spring Data, Spring Cloud

Architecture: Microservices, REST API, Message Queues

Databases & Caching: MySQL, MyBatis, ShardingSphere, MongoDB, Redis (AWS ElastiCache), Elasticsearch

Message Queue: RocketMQ

Cloud & Monitoring: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, AWS CloudWatch

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years in a relevant backend engineering role
• Based within Europe
• Strong experience with highly-scalable web backends
• Experience designing highly transactional systems
• Advanced proficiency in Object Oriented Design and analysis
• Advanced proficiency in non-functional software qualities: resiliency and maintainability
• Advanced proficiency in behaviour-driven testing techniques
• Deep understanding of Microservices architecture
• Proficient in SQL
• Expert knowledge of application development with RabbitMQ, MySQL, Redis and related technologies

Preferred Experience

Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data and iBATIS expertise
