Job Description
Purpose
The Wikimedia Fundraising team runs annual fundraising campaigns in Italy and seeks a linguist experienced in translation and translation review to translate English-to-Italian content and proofread banner, email, and online fundraising materials.
Scope of Work
Respond to ad-hoc translation requests (translation, review, or proofreading) and submit completed work by mutually agreed deadlines. You will provide personal feedback on messaging, discussing cultural and idiomatic nuances specific to Italian audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary Translation: Serve as the go-to translator for all online fundraising content in Italian, including email and banner appeals, payment forms, and donor support pages
- Review Management: Revise and respond to suggested edits from translation reviewers, deciding whether to accept or reject changes while maintaining quality standards
- Final Proofreading: Conduct final proofreading of coded content before live deployment
Required Qualifications
- Native Italian speaker with excellent verbal and written English skills
- Minimum 5 years proven experience in English-to-Italian translation and translation review
- Demonstrated translation experience in marketing, advertising, or fundraising subject matter
- Highly dependable and punctual work ethic
- Ability to work productively in a flexible, remote environment
- Proven experience with or interest in Wikipedia communities preferred
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience in the Wikipedia editing community or Wikimedia movement
- Copywriting experience
