Job Description

About xAI

xAI's mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. The team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is ideal for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. xAI operates with a flat organizational structure where all employees are expected to be hands-on and contribute directly to the company's mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic, strong prioritization skills, and excellent communication abilities are essential for success in this innovative environment.

About the Role

As a Technical Accounting Subject-Matter Expert, you will apply deep technical accounting and professional practice experience to support the development of xAI's next-generation artificial intelligence systems. In this role, you will contribute rigorous technical accounting analysis, clear written explanations, and sound professional judgment that help train AI models to address complex, non-routine accounting issues.

Working closely with engineering and research teams, you will evaluate sophisticated accounting scenarios and guide how AI systems interpret and apply authoritative U.S. GAAP, SEC guidance, and company-level accounting policy considerations. Your contributions will directly impact the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of AI-generated accounting conclusions.

You will draw on hands-on experience across technical financial reporting areas including revenue recognition, business combinations, consolidations, equity compensation, leases, financial instruments, and disclosures. You'll analyze challenging fact patterns similar to those encountered in Big 4 engagements, national office consultations, or technical accounting memo development.

This role is well suited for technical accounting professionals who thrive in fast-paced, intellectually demanding environments and are comfortable working with evolving prompts, guidance, and objectives. Success requires the ability to exercise professional judgment under ambiguity, clearly document accounting conclusions, and adapt quickly to iterative feedback—much like supporting complex client transactions or responding to emerging accounting standards and SEC interpretations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use proprietary software applications to provide input and labels on defined projects
  • Support and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data for AI model training
  • Play a pivotal role in supporting and contributing to the training of new accounting tasks and scenarios
  • Evaluate complex accounting fact patterns and provide expert analysis on technical accounting matters
  • Document accounting conclusions with clarity and precision for AI training purposes
  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to improve AI system accuracy and reliability
  • Apply U.S. GAAP and SEC guidance to novel accounting situations and edge cases
  • Exercise professional judgment when addressing ambiguous or evolving accounting scenarios

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate brings substantial experience in technical accounting from a Big 4 firm, national office consulting, or comparable technical accounting background. You should possess deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and complex accounting standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to clearly articulate complex accounting concepts. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, and show flexibility in adapting to evolving project requirements. High attention to detail, excellent documentation practices, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams are critical success factors.
