About the Role
Canva is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Recommendations team. This is a senior-level position for an experienced ML engineer passionate about building scalable recommendation systems that impact millions of users globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for recommendation systems at scale
- Architect and optimize recommendation algorithms to improve user engagement and satisfaction
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, data, and engineering to define ML strategies
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to ML best practices across the organisation
- Conduct experiments and A/B testing to validate model performance and business impact
- Work with large-scale datasets and distributed computing infrastructure
About You
You are an experienced machine learning engineer with a proven track record of building recommendation systems in production environments. You possess deep expertise in ML fundamentals, strong software engineering practices, and the ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-paced settings.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional machine learning engineering experience
- Demonstrated expertise in building recommendation systems or similar ML products at scale
- Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar)
- Experience with distributed computing and large-scale data processing
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles and practices
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
