charity: water is a global nonprofit dedicated to bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in need. We work with trusted local partners across over 20 countries in Africa and Asia to build sustainable water solutions. Every project is verified using GPS coordinates, photos, and field stories to maximize impact and transparency.

The Role

We seek an experienced part-time contractor to support our Water Programs team in grants oversight across three critical areas: audit management, compliance review, and misconduct coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grants Audit Management: Lead end-to-end audit processes for up to 12 active partner audits, serving as primary charity: water contact for external auditors, managing timelines, facilitating auditor selection when needed, and reviewing draft and final audit reports
  • Compliance Review: Assess partner compliance documentation, identify gaps, and recommend follow-up actions to the Grants team
  • Misconduct & Risk Management: Coordinate misconduct cases from intake through resolution, managing documentation, analysis, team coordination, and case progression while relying on Grants team for partner context and final approvals
  • Manage partner audits inbox and respond to communications in a timely manner
  • Keep the Grants team regularly informed and involved at key decision points

Position Details

  • Commitment: Average 16 hours per week (flexibility for variation week-to-week)
  • Work Style: Approximately 70% independent, 30% collaborative with Program Finance team
  • Hours: Mutually agreed upon to accommodate US and African time zones
  • Tracking: Weekly time tracker submission required
  • Location: Fully remote; priority consideration for Kenya and African-based applicants, though open to global applicants with ability to work across US and African time zones

Requirements

  • Experience with grant audit processes and financial compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent audits and complex documentation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams
