The Role

The Criminal Defense Paralegal - Global role at DeChant Law exists to meet our firm's growing needs by supporting two attorneys with a high volume of cases. As a pivotal member of our team, you will manage cases independently, ensuring comprehensive client support and consistent communication. This role is crucial in maintaining our standard of excellence, allowing our attorneys to focus on strategic advocacy while you handle the detailed execution of case management.

This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented legal professional who thrives in high-stakes environments and is passionate about criminal defense work. You'll be responsible for owning cases from start to finish, with the communication skills and legal expertise to navigate complex legal nuances with confidence and precision.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Case Management: Manage 60–70 criminal defense cases from initiation to conclusion, ensuring all legal procedures are executed correctly and timely
• Client Communication: Maintain seamless communication with clients throughout the case lifecycle, providing updates, gathering necessary information, and addressing concerns
• Legal Documentation: Prepare and organize legal documents, discovery materials, and case files with meticulous attention to detail
• Court Coordination: Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, and expert witnesses to ensure smooth case progression
• Research & Investigation Support: Conduct legal research and assist with case investigation activities as needed
• Case Administration: Manage deadlines, calendars, and administrative tasks to ensure no critical dates are missed

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a criminal defense paralegal or in a similar legal support role
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills capable of handling 60+ cases simultaneously
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities with professional maturity
• Proficiency with legal research tools, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
• Understanding of criminal procedure and court processes
• Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with attorneys and clients
• Passion for criminal defense and commitment to protecting client rights
